One Injured in Alleged Hit-and-run Accident on I-25 in Albuquerque, NM
Albuquerque, NM — November 1, 2023, a woman was critically injured due to an alleged hit-and-run accident at around 3:45 a.m. along Interstate 25.
Authorities say that the accident took place in the area of southbound I-25 and Jefferson Street. It appears that two vehicles somehow collided on I-25, leaving a passenger in one vehicle to be critically injured.

The driver of the other vehicle allegedly fled the scene, and authorities say they found numerous alcoholic beverages in the vehicle. As of December 6, 2024, the alleged runaway driver was arrested for multiple charges, including reckless driving and leaving the scene of an accident. Additional details are unconfirmed right now.
Commentary
While it's encouraging there are consequences being looked into for an alleged runaway driver, the mention of alcohol raises other, more complex concerns. Did authorities ever investigate where this supposed alcohol came from? New Mexico has similar laws to Texas in regards to alcohol providers contributing to serious accidents. Details might show that the alcohol was unlawfully served to the runaway driver, which could mean the complicit alcohol provider can be held responsible if those actions led to the accident. Maybe authorities have been more thorough behind the scenes, but I've had countless cases where it took secondary independent investigations to bring those kinds of details to light.
