3 Injured in Alleged Intoxicated Driver Accident on I-37 in Corpus Christi, TX
Corpus Christi, TX — January 15, 2024, three people were injured following an alleged intoxicated driver accident at around 5:06 a.m. on Interstate 37.
Authorities said in preliminary statements that the crash took place along the 12500 block of I-37.

It appears that a driver got onto the wrong side of the interstate and began driving southbound in the northbound lanes. As a result, the wrong-way vehicle crashed into multiple other drivers, including an 18-wheeler. As a result, at least three people were sent to the hospital.
The driver going the wrong direction was reportedly arrested for driving while intoxicated. At this time, additional details are unavailable.
Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
To be rather frank, it'd be more surprising if there weren't allegations of intoxicated driving here. That's almost always the reason a driver gets on the wrong side of a major interstate, especially long enough to cause a serious collision. But what makes things particularly complex is that a lot of these drivers were over-served by local alcohol providers. That warrants more thorough investigations, and authorities aren't always up to the task.
For example, I handled a case not long ago involving a wrong-way driver. The family was just trying to be thorough, so they asked us to look at their situation. They were surprised when we wanted to know if authorities looked into where the drunk driver had been drinking, and authorities never even bothered looking into it. They had already moved on because they had a driver facing charges. Meanwhile, our independent investigations revealed a bar that recklessly and unlawfully over-served the drunk driver, meaning they could face criminal investigations, fines, or liability for their own actions.
Maybe nothing like that happened here, but it's important there is clear evidence to say one way or the other. In that example, the family may never have known there was an accomplice who needed to be held accountable had they not sought out professionals independent of the authorities. Authorities here might be conducting more thorough investigations behind the scenes, but I learned a long time ago not to take that for granted.
