Andy Gutierrez-Carrillo, 5 Injured in Car Accident on U.S. 79 in Robertson County, TX
Robertson County, TX — March 3, 2024, Andy Gutierrez-Carrillo and five others were injured in a multi-vehicle car accident at around 3:10 p.m. along U.S. 79.
According to authorities, a Ford F-350 with a smoker trailer in tow was traveling in the northeast bound lane of U.S. Highway 79 in the vicinity a little less than three quarters of a mile south of the F.M. 1644 intersection when the accident took place.
Officials indicate that, for as yet unknown reasons, the trailer became unattached from the pickup truck and drifted into the southwest bound lane of the highway. This caused a collision between the trailer and an oncoming Dodge Ram 3500 pickup truck occupied by 20-year-old Andy Gutierrez-Carrillo, a 19-hear-old woman, and an infant girl. The collision caused the Ram to overturn, coming to a stop on its left side on top of the guardrail on the northwest side of the roadway.
A Kia Sorento occupied by a 42-year-old man and two women ages 41 and 13 also collided with the smoker trailer, after which it reportedly crashed into the guardrail, as well. A Kia soul occupied by a 17-year-old woman and a 26-year-old man which had been southbound behind the Sorento swerved to the right in an attempt to avoid a collision with the smoker trailer, as well, but in doing so ended up colliding with the back right corner of the Sorento.
Gutierrez-Carrillo incurred suspected severe injuries as a result of the wreck. Five others—the 19-year-old and infant from the Ram pickup truck, both of the occupants of the Kia Soul, and the 42-year-old man from the Kia Sorento—sustained suspected minor injuries, as well. All injured victims were transported by EMS in order to receive necessary treatment. No other injuries have been reported.
Additional details pertaining to this incident are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.
