Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
Right now, the cause of the crash is unconfirmed. Some folks, though, may have already made up their minds. The fact of the matter is people are quick to assume that motorcyclists are reckless. Even authorities can be victim to this bias. While a car accident can bring up concerns of mechanical issues, road hazards, tire blowouts, and other unavoidable factors, motorcyclists tend to be blamed before the facts are clear.
This is one of the reasons independent investigations have proved far more reliable when it comes to getting answers after crashes like this. Perhaps authorities here have been more diligent to not let bias affect their efforts, but it's not something I would take for granted.
