Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
One thing about commercial truck wrecks is they almost always result in a chaotic crash scene. That requires a delicate hand and professionals who have extensive experience and the right tools to preserve all crucial evidence. Whether or not authorities can provide all that changes from department to department.
I've handled hundreds of commercial vehicle accident cases over the years. I've simply lost count of how many times officers lacked the time, tools, or training to handle a serious truck wreck. It would then take more thorough independent accident reconstructions to finally bring all the facts to light. Sometimes, an independent investigation just confirms what authorities already know. Maybe that would happen here. But taking for granted that authorities are automatically going to get a family the resolution they need is bound to leave some with unanswered questions.
