Commentary
With a car crash like this, people might think it's a simple matter of finding out who had the right-of-way, and that's that. Even these kinds of crashes, though, can present unique challenges. Sometimes, it's as simple as making sure the crash actually gets a proper investigation.
For example, I had this case a while back where someone needed another set of eyes because authorities all but left them out to dry. Both our client and the other driver claimed they had the green light, and the officer was rushed on to other work before he could get to the truth. Once we were brought in, though, it didn't take long to find a nearby security camera that caught the crash on video. Sure enough, it showed the other driver ran the light.
It often surprises people when authorities miss what would seem to be obvious pieces of evidence. It happens, though, which is why it can be helpful to follow up with authorities early on. If it seems like they're able to answer questions to a satisfactory degree, they're likely doing good investigations. If their answers come up short, though, then it may be time for independent investigations.
