Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
It's important that when unusual details stand out that they get close attention from experienced accident reconstructionists. For example, it stands out that only one person reportedly had injuries here. A lot of the time when similar sized vehicles collide, the drivers are going to have similar injuries, all else equal. When there's a disparity in injuries like there appears to be here, it could be a sign that something meant to protect the victim failed to work properly—seatbelts, airbags, the structure of the car itself, etc. Likely or not, it's important possible factors like that are at least ruled out before investigators consider the matter closed.
