Single-vehicle accidents like this can be a lot more complex than people may realize. People tend to think that they're simple just because only one vehicle was involved. Even authorities can be quick to brush aside a crash like this. Well, that kind of thinking can lead to crucial details slipping through the cracks. That's why there often needs to be thorough independent investigations to properly handle a crash like this.
Were there hazards in the roadway? Did the vehicle have any defects? Did a tire blow out? Does the street have a lack of signage or lighting? Was the driver unlawfully over-served by a bar? Was there another driver involved who left the scene? Did any nearby businesses or residences catch the accident on a security camera?
Likely or not, these are the kind of things independent accident reconstructionists generally look into. Even if it's just to rule out unlikely possible factors, it can help ensure nothing important slips through the cracks. Maybe authorities have done their due diligence to look into similar details, but I learned a long time ago in my career not to take that for granted. Otherwise, people can find themselves weeks or months down the line with the same old unanswered questions.
