Commentary
One thing which stands out to me here is that one person in the vehicle was apparently seriously injured while the other person was apparently fine. That might not be due to anything unusual, but did authorities examine the vehicle for possible defects? If not, they could be missing vital information about how these injuries occurred.
For example, I handled a case a while back where a family was concerned about the authorities' investigations. Authorities blamed the victim for not wearing a seatbelt, but everyone that knew the victim knew that would never happen. Sure enough, we had experienced independent specialists examine the vehicle, and it turned out the victim's seatbelt was defective. Had it worked properly, the victim likely would have been more or less okay. That family trusting their instincts and seeking out a second opinion helped correct the record and get them a fair resolution they otherwise might never have seen.
Like I said, it's possible nothing like that happened here. However, these are the kinds of red flags that should never be ignored, regardless of how likely or unlikely they may be. Either investigations can uncover a serious issue that needs to be resolved, or it can help give those involved in the crash some peace of mind that they're not missing anything important.
