Commentary
When any serious crash happens, it’s important to determine whether investigators thoroughly examined all possible causes rather than making assumptions.
Did authorities take the time to fully analyze the scene? Head-on collisions can be affected by road conditions, visibility issues, or sudden maneuvers. Did investigators document skid marks, vehicle positions, and environmental factors to get a clear picture of what happened?
Did they consider whether a vehicle defect played a role? Mechanical failures—such as steering or brake malfunctions—can cause a vehicle to drift unexpectedly. Were both vehicles properly inspected to rule out potential defects?
Did they secure all available electronic evidence? The vehicles’ Engine Control Modules (ECMs) may have stored key data, and GPS records or nearby surveillance footage could have provided valuable insights. Were investigators careful to preserve this information?
If authorities are able to provide sensible answers to these kinds of questions, it's usually a sign that they did thorough investigations. Otherwise, if the answers come up short, victims and families might consider having a second set of eyes on the crash to ensure they're getting the full story.
