Commentary
One of the main concerns with single-vehicle wrecks is that they don't often get the attention they need. Authorities don't always see them as a high priority, so things can easily go overlooked.
Is there a lack of signage here? Did the crash involve poor road design? Did a tire blow out? Did the vehicle have defects, either that caused the crash or made injuries more severe than they should have been? Did authorities ever follow up with the seriously injured driver, or did they not hear out the victim's side of the story?
Likely or not, investigators should be able to cover all of these potential factors. Maybe authorities did so, but if not, there may need to be a second set of eyes making sure nothing important slipped through the cracks.
