Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
Single-vehicle accidents like this often leave many unanswered questions. People tend to assume that because only one vehicle was involved, the cause must be obvious. However, experience has taught me that many factors—some less obvious than others—could have played a role. If authorities aren’t thorough in their investigations, those factors may be overlooked, leaving victims and families without the full picture.
One important question to consider is whether investigators have looked into potential vehicle malfunctions. A faulty steering system, brake failure, or even something as simple as a blown tire could have caused the driver to lose control. Additionally, it’s worth asking whether the car’s safety features performed as expected. If seatbelts or airbags failed to protect the occupants as they should have, that could be a critical issue that warrants further scrutiny.
Another key question is whether authorities have collected all relevant electronic data. Modern vehicles often have onboard systems that record speed, braking, and steering inputs leading up to a crash. Additionally, investigators should check for security or traffic cameras in the area, as they may have captured footage of the accident. If these steps haven’t been taken, vital evidence may be lost, making it harder for victims and families to get the answers they need.
