3 Injured in Car Accident on Lomas Del Sur in Laredo, TX
Webb County, TX — January 1, 2025, three people were injured in a car accident at approximately 6:30 a.m. along Lomas Del Sur.
According to authorities, two women—a 24-year-old and a 27-year-old—were traveling in a westbound Ford Focus on Lomas Del Sur at the Ejido Avenue intersection when the accident took place.

The intersection is apparently controlled by stop signs all ways. Officials indicate that, for reasons yet to be confirmed, a Ford F-350 occupied by a 27-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman that had been traveling southbound on Ejidas entered the intersection at an apparently unsafe time. A collision subsequently took place between the front-end of the F-350 and the right side of the Focus.
The 27-year-old woman who had been a passenger in the Focus reportedly sustained serious injuries due the the wreck. The woman who had been behind the wheel of the Focus suffered minor injuries, according to reports, and the man from the truck was possibly injured, as well. Additional details pertaining to this incident—including the identities of the victims—are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.

When I see reports like this, my main concern is whether those injured in the crash—and their loved ones—will get the answers they need about what happened. Intersection collisions can seem straightforward, but experience has shown me that they often involve more contributing factors than are immediately apparent. That’s why it’s critical to examine three key questions when looking into any serious accident.
The first question is whether authorities have conducted a thorough investigation. Law enforcement will likely document the scene and attempt to determine why the Ford F-350 entered the intersection at an unsafe time. However, important details can sometimes be overlooked. Were all traffic control signs clearly visible, or were they obstructed by vegetation, poor lighting, or other factors? Were there any independent witnesses who could verify the sequence of events? Did officers have the necessary time and resources to conduct a full reconstruction of the accident? Ensuring these questions are answered is crucial to understanding the full circumstances of the crash.
The second question to consider is whether anyone has looked into the possibility of a vehicle defect. While many assume these crashes result from driver decisions, mechanical failures—such as brake malfunctions, throttle issues, or steering problems—can also play a role. If the Ford F-350 experienced a defect that prevented the driver from stopping in time, that could be an important factor in understanding the crash. Unfortunately, these possibilities are rarely investigated unless someone specifically requests that avenue be explored. A forensic analysis of both vehicles could help determine whether a defect contributed to the accident.
Finally, it’s important to determine whether all relevant electronic data has been collected. Modern vehicles store critical information in their engine control modules, including speed, braking, and steering inputs before impact. Additionally, surveillance footage from nearby businesses or traffic cameras may provide visual confirmation of how the collision occurred. Even cellphone data might be relevant if distraction played a role. Securing this evidence quickly is essential to preserving a full and accurate understanding of what happened.
At the end of the day, answering these questions could be essential to understanding what really happened and why. A thorough examination of all three of these issues—including the quality of police investigations, possible vehicle defects, and electronic data—is the least that can be done to ensure that those affected by the crash receive the clarity they deserve.
