Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
With single-vehicle wrecks, it can surprise people when authorities just make hasty reports and move on without actually digging into all possible factors. The reality is not all departments or supervisors prioritize accident reconstruction. This can leave officers without the time or tools they need to do a good job on their investigations.
As such, it can be important after crashes like this to follow up with authorities as early as possible. If they can address the concerns of victims and families, that's generally a sign they did good investigations. But if their responses don't add up and leave gaps in the story, that can be a sign that independent investigators need to step in and make sure nothing important slipped through the cracks.
