A big factor I'm not seeing mentioned here is if the victim's vehicle was clearly visible. People might think an 18-wheeler hitting a disabled car in the middle of a highway is just an unavoidable accident. But if evidence shows a reasonably prudent truck driver could have avoided the crash, that would raise serious red flags.
A while back, for example, I had a case involving similar details. While the trucking company initially claimed the vehicle was unlit, we obtained video evidence which showed the opposite. The victim's lights were on, but the truck driver distracted and failed to avoid the clearly visible car ahead of him. Maybe that isn't what happened here, but that's why it's crucial to know what all authorities looked into and if they were able to reconstruct the moments leading up to the impact.
