Dina Rouse, 3 Injured in Truck Accident in Atlanta, TX
Cass County, TX — June 22, 2024, Dina Rouse and three others were injured in a truck accident at approximately 12:15 p.m. along U.S. Highway 59.
According to authorities, a Peterbilt 18-wheeler hauling another Peterbilt was traveling southbound on U.S. 59 at the Emma Lena Way intersection when the accident took place.

The traffic signal for southbound traffic on the highway was reportedly red at the time of the accident with several cars at a stop awaiting the green. Officials indicate that, for reasons yet to be confirmed, the Peterbilt failed to slow and stop for the red light, crashing into the rear-end of a Ford Expedition occupied by a 72-year-old man and a 73-year-old woman, as a result. The impact caused the Expedition to be pushed forward into the rear-end of a Chevrolet Equinox occupied by 72-year-old Dina Rouse. The Expedition was, in turn, pushed forward into the back-end of a Kia Niro containing a 58-year-old woman.
Rouse and both of the people from the Expedition incurred reportedly serious injuries due to the wreck. The woman from the Expedition was flown to an area medial facility in order to receive immediate treatment. The woman from the Niro also sustained moderate injuries, according to reports; she, Rouse, and the man from the Expedition were each taken to local medical facilities for necessary care. No other injuries have been reported. Additional details pertaining to this incident are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.
Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
When accidents like this happen, it's easy for people to assume they result from a simple mistake. However, based on my experience, crashes involving large trucks often have more complex causes that require a thorough investigation.
In this case, understanding why the 18-wheeler failed to stop at a red light is essential. Factors like brake failure, driver distraction, or even issues with load distribution could be at play. It's crucial to explore these possibilities to determine what led to the truck's inability to stop and the subsequent chain-reaction collision.
Truck maintenance is a key aspect of this investigation. Proper maintenance ensures that critical systems, such as brakes and tires, function correctly. Inadequate upkeep can lead to dangerous malfunctions, potentially contributing to the kind of scenario we see here. Regular inspections and timely repairs are vital to prevent mechanical issues that could result in devastating accidents.
If the truck involved was operating under a commercial trucking company, there may be additional layers of responsibility. The company's practices regarding vehicle maintenance, driver training, and safety enforcement could have a significant impact on the events leading up to the crash. Any lapses in these areas might have contributed to the severity of the accident.
Ultimately, the goal is to uncover the truth and provide answers to those affected by the crash. Even if it requires conducting an independent investigation to obtain vital evidence, it is crucial to consider every factor to ensure that those impacted by the crash receive the clarity and closure they deserve.
