Commentary
I've had many people ask me about injuries caused by dogs and whether or not the owners are responsible for that. The answer comes down to the One Bite Rule. Essentially, if it's the first time an animal has attacked someone, the owners aren't really responsible for that. Animals can be unpredictable, and unfortunately they sometimes lash out unexpectedly. After that, though, there is a known possibility of the dog being violent. That means owners have to take care not to let them hurt anyone else. If they fail to take necessary reasonable precautions, they may be responsible if another attack occurs. That's why it's important here to know if this dog belonged to someone and had any sort of history of biting people.
