Dorothy Carl Injured in Truck Accident in Anna, TX
Collin County, TX — August 12, 2024, Dorothy Carl was injured following a multi-vehicle truck accident at about 10:45 a.m. along U.S. 75, Central Expressway.
According to authorities, 92-year-old Dorothy Carl was a passenger in a northbound Ford Expedition SUV on Central Expressway in the vicinity north of Farm to Market 455 when the accident took place.

Officials indicate that, for as yet unknown reasons, a northbound Freightliner 18-wheeler with a trailer in tow failed to appropriately control its speed for traffic conditions. It reportedly collided with the rear-end of the Ford Expedition before veering to one side and sideswiping a Ford Explorer, coming to a stop only after driving into the grassy center median of the highway. The rear-end collision caused the Expedition to be pushed forward into the back of a trailer being hauled by a second northbound Freightliner. Reports state that Carl suffered apparently severe injuries as a result of the wreck; she was transported to a local medical facility by EMS in order to receive necessary treatment. No other injuries have been reported. Additional details pertaining to this incident are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.
Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
When accidents like this happen, it's easy for people to assume they result from a simple misjudgment or bad timing. However, based on my experience, crashes involving large trucks and multiple vehicles often require a closer look to fully understand the factors at play. This collision on U.S. 75 is no exception.
One of the primary questions investigators will need to address is why the first 18-wheeler was unable to control its speed for traffic conditions, leading to a chain reaction that severely impacted the vehicles ahead. Investigators will need to explore whether factors such as driver distraction, fatigue, or mechanical issues played a role. Large trucks require longer stopping distances, and any lapse in attention or vehicle performance can lead to serious consequences, especially when approaching slower or stopped traffic.
If the 18-wheeler was operating under a commercial company, it’s crucial to assess whether the company adhered to safety standards, including regular maintenance and driver training. It’s essential that trucking companies take proactive steps to ensure their drivers are fully prepared for situations requiring rapid adjustments, such as changes in traffic flow; failure in these areas could suggest shared responsibility for the wreck.
Ultimately, the goal is to uncover the truth and provide answers to those affected by the crash. Even if it requires conducting an independent investigation to gather vital evidence, it is crucial to consider every factor to ensure that those impacted by the accident receive the clarity and closure they deserve.
