Man Injured in Alleged Drunk Driver Accident on Crockett Rd. in Elkhart, TX
Anderson County, TX — January 13, 2026, a man was injured due to an alleged drunk driver accident just after 5:45 a.m. along Crockett Road.
According to authorities, a 52-year-old man was traveling in a southbound Nissan Frontier on Crockett Road (U.S. 287) just south of the Camp Webwood Road intersection when the accident took place.
Officials indicate that a northbound Jeep Liberty failed to safely maintain its lane of travel. A hear-on collision consequently occurred between the two vehicles. The man from the Nissan reportedly sustained serious injuries over the course of the accident.
The driver of the Jeep had allegedly been under the influence at the time of the wreck. Additional details pertaining to this incident—including the identity of the victim—are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.
Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
When I read about crashes like this one, what comes to mind isn’t just the moment when things went wrong on the road, but how often the discussion stops there. These incidents are usually presented as isolated driving errors, even though impairment—when it’s involved—often develops well before anyone turns the ignition key.
If reports are correct and the driver of the other vehicle was impaired, that opens the door to questions most people don’t realize are even available to ask. One of the most important but often overlooked questions in cases like this is, “Where did the driver get their alcohol?” If alcohol played a role, Texas law recognizes that responsibility may extend beyond the driver to an alcohol provider that continued serving someone who was obviously intoxicated. That’s not speculation—it’s an accountability framework the law has intentionally put in place.
In many investigations, however, that part of the story is never fully explored. Law enforcement understandably focuses on what happened at the scene, while what happened beforehand can remain unclear. For the injured party, that can mean missing answers about whether this collision might have been prevented long before the vehicles ever crossed paths. Dram shop law exists to help fill in those gaps when impairment is suspected.
I often find myself coming back to the same thought when reading reports like this: the public narrative is usually incomplete. Understanding the full scope of responsibility isn’t about assigning blame indiscriminately—it’s about recognizing that public safety depends on responsible decisions at every step, including decisions made by those who serve alcohol.
Three takeaways to keep in mind:
- Texas dram shop law allows scrutiny of alcohol providers when overservice may have contributed to a crash.
- A complete investigation should look beyond the roadway and examine where an allegedly impaired driver may have been drinking.
- The law provides remedies and avenues for accountability that many people don’t realize exist, even when details are still emerging.
