Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
With so few details available right now, I have to wonder if this incident ever got the attention it deserved. It often surprises people when a serious accident occurs, they wait for authorities to get answers, and they find authorities simply moved on without getting the whole story.
The reality is not every department prioritizes accident reconstruction, and not every accident gets the attention it needs. If an officer doesn't have the time, tools, or training to handle a given accident, important details can easily slip through the cracks.
That's one of the reasons independent investigations are typically more fruitful. Sometimes, they simply reaffirm what authorities known so victims and families know nothing important slipped through the cracks. Other times, they catch crucial details authorities missed.
Whatever happened here, my hope is that those affected by this accident know a lot more than the scarce information in these preliminary reports.
