Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
I certainly am not here to speculate about what all happened here, but any crash involving a large truck can present significant challenges. One thing to consider is whether or not authorities gave the accident the attention it needs. Sometimes, they can be too quick to rush to judgment. A proper investigation should be able to answer key questions early on.
For example, did investigators have the time and resources to fully examine the crash scene? When a crash involves multiple injuries and a large vehicle, the scene can quickly become complicated. If vehicle positions, impact points, and other evidence weren’t carefully documented, that can make it harder to understand what really happened.
Also, has anyone looked into whether a vehicle defect contributed to the collision or worsened the outcome? Steering or brake failures can occur in any type of vehicle, and safety systems—like seatbelts or airbags—need to be checked to ensure they worked as expected.
Finally, has electronic data from both vehicles been secured? Many vehicles store information about speed, braking, and steering inputs. That data, combined with possible dashcam or surveillance footage, can offer crucial insight into the sequence of events—but only if it’s preserved early in the investigation.
If authorities can't seem to come up with satisfactory answers, then it's possible they've already moved on without giving the crash the attention it needs. That's when folks may decide they'd rather have a second set of eyes looking things over to help ensure nothing important slips through the cracks.
