Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
One thing always at the front of my mind with motorcycle wrecks is that they don't always get the attention they deserve. A lot of people, including the authorities, will simply write off motorcycle wrecks because they already have a negative view of riders. This can lead to incomplete or outright false conclusions.
This is why independent investigators are such a valuable tool after accidents like this. The main reason I and many other professionals rely on independent accident reconstructionists is simple: their priority is getting the facts. There's no room for bias or speculation. They just focus their efforts on gathering evidence and letting that evidence speak for itself.
Ultimately, those efforts here may show that authorities have done good and thorough investigations on their own. However, it could also show there were shortcomings and details that slipped through the cracks. As long as the victim's loved ones can be sure they're getting the full story, either result is likely preferable to just hoping those handling the investigations don't let bias get in their way.
