Commentary
While it isn't clear how or why this incident occurred, it's important that any work fatality in Texas gets thorough investigations early on. We have the most complex work fatality laws of any other state in the country. These laws sometimes result in families fighting for a fair resolution against employers who prioritize their own needs over those of their workers' loved ones.
These legal hurdles can take significant evidence and strategizing to overcome, so waiting around for OSHA to complete an investigation isn't always as prudent as seeking out investigators who can more efficiently gather the kind of evidence a family would need to tell their loved one's side of the story. Were those steps ever taken here?
