If authorities say a truck driver made a mistake, and that led to a serious accident, people might think that makes everything open-and-shut. However, it's important to find out why the mistake happened. Was it just an isolated incident, or was it the result of numerous mistakes all culminating in an inevitable catastrophe?
Here's why I ask this. In my experience handling hundreds of commercial vehicle accident cases, professional drivers often make mistakes because they're being pressured to driver irresponsibly or otherwise are being allowed to by their employers. Companies might demand drivers meet unreasonable deadlines. They may be operating vehicles that aren't being maintained, leading to things like tire blowouts. Some companies hire drivers despite spotty safety records or fail to train new drivers so they can do their jobs properly. This kind of behavior paves the way for serious accidents to occur.
So it's possible all of this boils down to an individual truck driver making a mistake on their own. But if there is an accomplice to all of this in the form of a negligent employer, they need to be held accountable so they can clean up their act before more people get hurt.
