Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
It's alleged that the 18-wheeler left the scene after the incident, though Harris County officials say that driver is being charged for failure to stop and render aid. If that's true, what I'd be curious to know is who this driver is working for, if anyone. Generally speaking, a truck driver reportedly road raging and fleeing an accident scene is not something a truck driver just wakes up and decides to do. More often, they have a history of reckless behavior. In many of the hundreds of truck accident cases I've handled, companies would hire reckless drivers and either fail to conduct background checks or outright ignore the issues they found. All they cared about was getting a warm body behind the wheel, the risk to others be damned. Maybe that isn't what happened here, but I'm skeptical these details are telling the whole story.
