Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
Investigators seem to have some ideas about how this unfortunate accident occurred, but after years of helping injured motorcyclists I can't help but wonder which police theories are based on evidence and which are just assumptions due to the vehicle in question.
I've seen all kinds of motorcycle wrecks over the years and careful riders are still plenty vulnerable to things like tire blowouts, road hazards, mechanical issues, and larger vehicles not sharing the road correctly. Unfortunately, much of the time all of that is overlooked in people's rush to call a rider reckless after he crashes—even if there could be more to the story.

Am I saying it's impossible for a motorcyclist to make a mistake? Of course not, and I wouldn't expect investigators to overlook that while they work out the truth. However, I hope they won't ignore other possible extenuating circumstances either. For instance, if they suspected impairment played a role they should find out where the alcohol came from in case the victim was illegally over-served beforehand.
In the end I'm only saying what I always do: Every crash deserves careful and thorough investigation, and its story should only be told by evidence. I just hope that authorities in Vidor agree and they'll find the whole story. That injured man deserves no less.
