Commentary
People are often quick to assume pedestrian accidents always come down to who had the right-of-way. As important as that detail is, there could be extenuating circumstances to consider. What was visibility like at the time? Is there sufficient signage in the area? Did alcohol contribute to the accident? Have authorities pulled cell phone records? Did any nearby cameras catch the incident on video? It would surprise people how often authorities let seemingly obvious pieces of evidence slip through the cracks. That's why it's important to make sure a serious accident like this is being handled by experienced, well-equipped professionals. If nothing else, the victim's loved ones deserve to know they're getting the full story.
