It can surprise folks just how complex a crash like this can be. They're not always handled properly, and sometimes people are left weeks or months with no clear answers.
I recall not long ago, for example, handling a case that authorities all but left untouched. Two drivers crashed at a stop light, each blamed the other, and the investigating officer was rushed to work on other things before ever getting clear answers. Once we were brought in on the case, though, it didn't take long to find security video at a nearby business that authorities completely overlooked. It clearly showed what happened, and that was that.
Sometimes, it takes a second set of eyes to catch important details. Maybe authorities were more thorough with this accident, but it wouldn't be unusual if there was still more to this story that had yet to be investigated.
