Julian Hernandez Meza Killed in Work Accident in Garden City, TX
Glasscock County, TX — September 9, 2024, Julian Hernandez Meza was killed following a workplace accident that happened off of Co-Op County Road 133.
Details from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration say the incident happened outside of Garden City, east of Midland.
Specifics surrounding the incident are scarce at this time. Details say that 26-year-old Julian Hernandez Meza of San Antonio was in a ditch at the time. It appears a hose fell into the ditch. OSHA lists this as the cause of the fatal accident.
It's unclear if anyone else was injured. The OSHA summary lists one allege citation and a recommended current penalty of $16,550.

It might surprise some people to see such a sparse OSHA investigation summary. The reality, though, is that's often how things are. In fact, families often call me precisely because they feel authorities aren't giving them the answers they need.
Simply put, OSHA's priorities and the priorities of a family navigating the most complex work fatality laws in the nation are not always aligned. As a result, OSHA may do months of investigations only to come up with a fraction of evidence a family would need to get the benefits they deserve.
Perhaps authorities have been more thorough behind the scenes here and were just reserved in what they shared with the public. In my experience, though, families tend to be better off when they seek out experienced investigators who will work for their needs rather than just waiting around for OSHA to answer questions they may not even be asking.
