Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
It's complex enough to track down a driver who fled from an accident scene so they can answer for their involvement. It's even more serious that there were separate collisions here which each warrant careful investigations. I can only hope that the fact this incident involved two fatalities makes it a high priority for officials to investigate. I've unfortunately seen many vehicle-versus-bicycle accidents get brushed aside as unimportant while the victims and families affected were left looking for answers.
Perhaps with all the chaos of these events, having independent investigators look things over could help keep authorities accountable so nothing important slips through the cracks. Obviously, there needs to be continued efforts to ensure anyone who deserves to face consequences for their actions do so. At the end of the day, though, there are questions that need to be answered. That takes thorough accident reconstructions that a typical hit-and-run investigation alone may not be able to address fully.
