Linda Freed Killed in Charter Bus Accident in York County, PA
York County, PA — April 25, 2025, Linda Freed was fatally injured, another was hurt due to a charter bus accident at 8:39 a.m. on Route 30.
Authorities say the crash occurred in the West Manchester Township area northwest of York at the intersection of U.S. Rte. 30 and Kenneth Road.

Investigators said that 73-year-old Linda Freed and another person were in a vehicle going southbound on Kenneth Road. As that vehicle attempted a left turn to go eastbound on Route 30, authorities allege that a charter bus ran the light on westbound Route 30. As a result, it crashed into the vehicle Linda Freed was in.
Linda Freed was taken to a hospital in serious condition where reports now say she died on May 6. The other person in the vehicle with Freed had unspecified injuries. No other injuries were reported. Right now, additional details about the crash are unavailable.
Commentary
If the reports of a bus driver running a red light are true, it obviously raises some serious red flags. But if authorities put too much focus solely on the bus driver's actions, they may miss more serious issues that happened long before the driver got behind the wheel. Let me explain.
I've handled hundreds of commercial vehicle accident cases. A lot of them involve negligent employers whose actions contribute to a serious accident. It could be that the company expects drivers to meet unreasonable deadlines. This can lead to drivers driving for a dangerously long time, speeding, trying to beat lights, etc. Companies may also fail to train inexperienced drivers, or they might hire drivers with a history of reckless behavior just so they can get someone behind the wheel. These reckless business practices can foster an environment which makes a serious accident inevitable.
There isn't enough available information right now to say who or what ultimately caused this crash. However, there are people out there who deserve some answers. It's important they know the investigators looking for those answers are going to dig beyond the surface and make sure that all of the mistakes that led to the crash are adequately addressed. It remains to be seen if authorities alone are up to that challenge.
