Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
People tend to think work accidents are open-and-shut because OSHA is just going to handle everything, and that's that. In reality, OSHA rarely covers everything that workers and their families need. They have their own priorities, and those may not align with the needs of the victim. Not only that, but OSHA may not think to look into unusual and complex possible factors, such as examining the trailer involved here for potential defects. That's why it's generally more prudent to have independent investigators look into an accident like this. It may be the difference between folks getting the full story and something important slipping through the cracks.
