Head-on collisions involving commercial trucks require careful and thorough investigations. These crashes can be highly complex, and if authorities don’t take the time to analyze every possible factor, important details may be missed. That’s why it’s important to ask a few key questions about how the investigation is being handled.
Did investigators take the time and use the right tools to fully reconstruct the crash? Determining how two vehicles crossed paths requires careful analysis of vehicle positions, sightlines, and potential evasive maneuvers. This all can require a significant amount of effort and specialized equipment to properly analyze. If authorities rushed through their investigation, they may not have uncovered all contributing factors.
Did they check for possible vehicle defects? Mechanical failures—such as brake malfunctions, steering issues, or tire blowouts—could have played a role in the collision. Additionally, if seatbelts or airbags didn’t function properly, the crash could have been far worse than necessary. Were both vehicles carefully inspected before key evidence was lost?
Did they secure all available electronic evidence? Commercial trucks are typically equipped with onboard recorders that track speed, braking, and driver activity. The Dodge Ram may also have stored similar data, along with GPS records and cellphone activity. Additionally, nearby traffic cameras or security footage could provide valuable insight. Did authorities take steps to preserve this information before it was lost?
These questions can help reveal shortcomings that may otherwise go unnoticed. If authorities can adequately address these concerns, it's likely a sign they're doing good work to make sure nothing important slips through the cracks. However, if they efforts leave families with unanswered questions, it gives families the opportunity to seek out a second opinion. One way or the other, should at least be confident they're getting the whole story.
