When a commercial truck is involved in a crash, simply knowing that two vehicles collided isn’t enough. Accidents like this raise a number of questions that basic police reports don’t always answer.
For example, was the truck’s speed or lane position a factor? Were driver fatigue, mechanical issues, or blind spots involved? On the other side, could there have been roadway hazards, lighting problems, or other conditions that influenced what happened?
Commercial trucks also carry electronic logging devices and event data recorders that can provide critical insight into speed, braking, and driver hours before the crash. If that data isn’t secured quickly, it can be lost.
For victims and families, ensuring these steps are taken can make the difference between getting a full picture of events or being left with only a partial story.
