Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
When accidents like this occur, people often assume they stem from simple driver error or unavoidable conditions. However, in my experience, collisions involving large commercial vehicles often demand a deeper investigation into all possible contributing factors.
What led to the head-on collision between McKayla Schicker’s vehicle and the boom truck? Was one of the drivers distracted, fatigued, or otherwise impaired? Did either vehicle fail to maintain its lane, and if so, why? These questions are critical for understanding how such a devastating crash could have occurred and whether it might have been preventable.
The role of the boom truck’s operation also warrants scrutiny. Were its brakes, steering, and other systems in proper working order, or could a mechanical issue have contributed to the crash? Was the driver adequately trained and alert, or did a lapse in judgment or adherence to safety protocols play a role? Additionally, if the truck was part of a commercial operation, it’s important to assess whether the company responsible for the vehicle maintained it properly and ensured its driver adhered to safety standards.
Ultimately, the goal is to uncover the truth and provide clarity to those impacted by the accident. Even if it requires conducting an independent investigation to obtain critical evidence, every factor must be examined to ensure the injured teen and their family receive the answers and accountability they deserve.
