Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
With a single-vehicle crash like this, it sometimes surprises folks when authorities end up missing important details or making big mistakes. The reality, unfortunately, is that departments don't always see crashes like this as a high priority. Even when an officer has the experience and equipment to investigate things thoroughly, supervisors may pressure them to move on to other responsibilities too quickly.
That's why independent investigations often catch details authorities fail to. There could be vehicle defects, roadway design flaws, missing signage or lighting, a driver unlawfully over-served by a bar, faulty tires or brakes, etc. If an investigation doesn't consider even unlikely possibilities, they're bound to leave the victims and families with doubts. That's why folks who find themselves still asking the same questions fair better pursuing alternative avenues for getting the answers they need.
