Commentary
One of my concerns following any motorcycle wreck is that a lot of people unfairly jump to conclusions. People tend to be biased against motorcyclists, which can lead them to either blame riders unjustly or minimize the harm done to them by speculating that the rider did something to contribute to the crash. I know from experience, though, that many bikers are safe drivers who fall victim to the actions of negligent drivers in larger vehicles. Knowing that and proving that, though, are two different things.
At the end of the day, there needs to be as much evidence telling a victim's side of the story as possible. That happens with thorough accident investigations which look at a crash from all angles. What were road conditions? Has cell phone data been pulled? Were there nearby security cameras which caught the accident on video? Did authorities take down witness statements? Did the analyze vehicle damage and debris patterns? These key questions can help families realize whether or not they're really getting the answers they need. If not, steps can be taken as soon as possible to seek out independent investigations.
