When someone is seriously hurt in a crash like the one reported along Boondocks Road, it’s important to ask certain critical questions to get a full and accurate picture of what happened. After over three decades helping injury victims across Texas, I know firsthand that the surface details of a crash often only tell part of the story—and getting real answers requires asking the right questions.
First, we need to know whether authorities conducted a full and proper investigation into the crash. Single-vehicle motorcycle accidents are often quickly chalked up to rider error without a deeper look into potential contributing factors. Did officers carefully document the scene, check for roadway defects like loose gravel or potholes, or interview potential witnesses who might have observed the motorcyclist’s movements before the accident?
Second, it’s necessary to consider whether a vehicle defect could have played a role. Motorcycles are sensitive machines, and issues like brake failure, steering problems, or tire blowouts can easily cause a rider to lose control. A thorough inspection of the Harley-Davidson involved would be critical to ruling out mechanical failure or identifying it as a contributing factor.
Third, it’s vital to ensure that any available electronic data from the motorcycle has been collected and preserved. While motorcycles may not have black boxes as robust as passenger cars, many newer models are equipped with systems that can store important information about speed, braking, and handling right before a crash. Preserving and analyzing this data can provide crucial insight into the circumstances leading up to the wreck.
Answering these three questions is critical to making sure that no stone is left unturned in understanding the causes of a crash like this. Serious wrecks deserve serious investigation, not assumptions. Getting clear answers to these questions is crucial for those seeking to understand what happened and why—and it's the least that can be done to help those affected find the clarity and closure they deserve.
