Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
After any serious crash, people naturally ask how something like this could have happened on an ordinary afternoon. The pieces don’t always come together easily, and initial reports rarely paint the full picture. That’s why it’s worth pressing for more than just surface-level details.
Did the authorities thoroughly investigate the crash? A head-on or T-bone crash at a busy intersection deserves more than a routine scene review. Key questions are whether investigators took the time to reconstruct how the vehicles approached that junction, whether traffic camera footage was pulled and whether witness accounts were corroborated. Especially when one driver walks away with minor injuries and the other suffers serious harm, it’s important to understand how their paths collided. Unfortunately, many departments are stretched thin, and while some officers are well-trained in crash reconstruction, others may not go beyond basic diagramming. The accuracy of any conclusion depends heavily on how deep the initial review went.
Has anyone looked into the possibility that a vehicle defect caused the crash? Crashes involving newer model vehicles, like a 2024 truck, should always prompt questions about possible system malfunctions. Were any safety features disabled or not working properly? Could brake failure, sensor errors or steering issues have played a role? Mechanical problems don’t always leave obvious signs at the scene, especially when one vehicle takes most of the damage. That’s why both vehicles should undergo a full inspection before they're released to insurance companies or scrapped.
Has all the electronic data relating to the crash been collected? Both cars involved in this wreck likely contain valuable electronic evidence. The Ford, in particular, almost certainly has an engine control module and GPS logs that can show its speed, direction and any driver inputs right before the impact. Meanwhile, phone activity, infotainment logs and possible surveillance footage from surrounding businesses could shed light on what each driver was doing in those final moments. If none of that has been preserved, it becomes much harder to say what truly happened.
When serious injuries are involved, it’s not enough to rely on surface-level reports. Getting to the truth means asking uncomfortable questions, digging into hard data and refusing to let assumptions guide the outcome.
Key Takeaways:
- A serious crash demands more than just basic scene notes. It needs real investigation.
- Vehicle defects can't be ruled out without a hands-on inspection of both cars.
- Electronic records from the cars and nearby cameras may hold key answers.
