Commentary
One of the biggest concerns with single-vehicle accidents is people want to be sure the victim's side of the story is told fairly. That's absolutely a valid concern—it's just not one that authorities often prioritize. Sometimes, their efforts can fall short as they move on to other responsibilities without considering all the facts.
This is why it can be important for families to address their concerns with authorities as early and as often as possible. In my experience, when authorities are able to address those concerns adequately, it's because officers did a good job and focused on getting the facts. But when their answers come up short or leave doubts, that can be a sign that the crash might need another look from independent investigators to see if anything important slipped through the cracks.
