Commentary
With any serious crash, there are going to be inherent challenges to overcome. As straight-forward as these facts may seem, it takes a lot of evidence to get victims and families a fair resolution following an accident. Preliminary details from a police investigation aren't always enough on their own to reach that conclusion, which is why so many people feel more comfortable having a second set of eyes on an accident.
I've seen first hand how reassuring it can be for a family to hear that authorities already have all the facts, and their accident was in good hands. Other times, of course, they're glad they sought out a second opinion because it turned out authorities missed something important. Either way, it's always best to have as much information as possible going forward.
