Austin, TX — December 18, 2023, a pedestrian, Reynaldo Costilla, was killed in a car accident around 7:41 p.m. on E. Ben White Blvd. service road in Austin.
Sources report, leading up to the accident, a red Mazda 3 had just pulled out of a Randall's parking lot onto W. Ben White Blvd. service road, was facing east stopped at the intersection with Mancahca Rd., and was waiting for the signal light to turn green.
When the light turned green the Mazda 3 reportedly drove through the intersection and attempted to merge into the left-most lane. This is when the vehicle allegedly collided with Mr. Costilla.
Investigators report a witness alleged that Mr. Costilla entered the road seconds before the Mazda began merging left. Both the driver of the Mazda and the witness allegedly told authorities there was no way to avoid the collision.
The cause of the crash has not been released, however, authorities do not believe the Mazda 3 driver was under the influence of any drugs or alcohol.
