Coryell County, TX — January 23, 2025, Rodney Edwin and one other were injured due to an alleged drunk driver accident at 1:33 a.m. along I-14.
Initial details about the accident say that it happened between Killeen and Copperas Cove in the area of Fort Cavazos.

According to officials, 54-year-old Rodney Edwin was in a Ford F-150 going westbound on the interstate. It appears that a Honda Accord going the same direction failed to control speed, and it crashed into the Ford.
Due to the accident, Rodney Edwin was injured. The Honda driver also reportedly had injuries. Authorities allege that the Honda driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time, and they recommended charges.
Commentary
When authorities suspect alcohol played a role in a crash like this, it's important to ask not just what happened, but how it happened. One key question that often goes overlooked is where the alleged drunk driver got their alcohol and whether they were over-served before the crash.
Under Texas dram shop laws, bars, restaurants, and other alcohol providers can be held accountable if they serve alcohol to someone who is obviously intoxicated. If the Honda driver had been drinking at a business that ignored clear signs of impairment, that establishment may also bear responsibility for what happened here.
Investigations into alcohol-related crashes too often stop at the driver, but getting the full picture means looking into all contributing factors. If authorities here haven't bothered investigating beyond the crash scene, they could be letting an accomplice fly under the radar. Simply put, I can't recall working with any victims or families who would settle for that. They want to know that all responsible parties are facing appropriate consequences.
