Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
After a serious crash, there’s always a deep need for answers that can only come from asking the right questions early and thoroughly. It’s not just about what happened in the moment, but why it happened and whether anything could have prevented it.
Did the authorities thoroughly investigate the crash? When a crash involves multiple people with serious injuries, you’d hope the investigation rises to the occasion. But that’s not always the case. A truly thorough investigation would include things like a full crash reconstruction, mapping the scene in detail and carefully analyzing each driver’s actions leading up to the impact. It’s fair to wonder whether those steps were taken here. Depending on who arrived first, the investigative depth can vary greatly. Some officers are trained in advanced collision analysis, while others might stop at surface-level observations.
Has anyone looked into the possibility that a vehicle defect caused the crash? Sometimes the damage we can’t see is what matters most. Mechanical failures like faulty brakes, steering issues or electrical malfunctions can turn routine drives into disasters. Without a professional inspection of both vehicles, it’s impossible to rule out whether one of them had a defect that contributed to the crash. Especially in collisions with this level of injury, a close look under the hood could be a missing piece of the puzzle.
Has all the electronic data relating to the crash been collected? Modern cars often tell a story that goes beyond eyewitnesses or paper reports. Data from onboard systems, GPS, phones or nearby traffic cameras could confirm speeds, braking patterns or even signs of driver distraction. It's not clear if that kind of digital evidence was gathered here, but if it wasn’t, key context might now be slipping away.
There’s always more to a crash than bent metal and sirens. What matters most in the aftermath is how seriously the facts are pursued, because without a deeper look, the truth can stay buried.
Key Takeaways
- Serious crashes deserve more than just a surface-level investigation.
- Mechanical failures should always be ruled out with expert inspections.
- Vehicle and phone data can answer questions that no witness can.
