Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
With a single-vehicle like this, people tend to quickly assume the driver must have done something wrong. There are plenty of single-vehicle wrecks, though, which happen for reasons drivers aren't entirely in control of. Tire blowouts, mechanical defects, road hazards, drivers illegally over-served by a bar, medical conditions, other drivers who left the scene—these things happen, and initial reports don't always catch them. That's why the focus is often only on more common possibilities, like speeding or distracted driving, and that leads to important details slipping through the cracks. Whatever happened here, the evidence needs to be able to speak for itself. Are those steps being taken here?
