Sandra Poindexter, 1 Injured in Car Accident on S.H. 46 in Comal County, TX
Comal County, TX — May 6, 2025, Sandra Poindexter and another person were injured in a car accident shortly before 9:15 a.m. along State Highway 46.
According to authorities, 75-year-old Sandra Poindexter was traveling in a westbound Hyundai Santa Fe on S.H. 46 at the Farm to Market 3009 intersection when the accident took place.

Officials indicate that, for as yet unknown reasons, an eastbound Ford Explorer occupied by a 21-year-old woman approached the intersection from the wrong lane. A collision consequently took place between the Explorer and the Santa Fe.
Poindexter reportedly suffered serious injuries as a result of the wreck. The woman from the Explorer received minor injuries, as well, according to reports. Additional details pertaining to this incident are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.
Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
When a vehicle ends up in the wrong lane and causes a head-on collision, the natural response is to assume driver confusion or error. But assumptions can cloud the more important question: what led to that moment—and could it have been prevented?
1. Did the authorities thoroughly investigate the crash?
A crash caused by wrong-lane travel at an intersection requires close scrutiny. Investigators should reconstruct the approach of the Ford Explorer—was it a mistaken turn, a late correction, or a failure to recognize lane markings? Did the Hyundai have any opportunity to avoid the collision? These are critical details that can’t be guessed—they have to be measured and mapped out at the scene. If that level of analysis wasn’t done, the true cause may still be unclear.
2. Has anyone looked into the possibility that a vehicle defect caused the crash?
If the Explorer suddenly veered into the wrong lane, it’s fair to ask whether that action was voluntary. A steering issue, brake lock-up, or a faulty electronic assist system could have played a role. These failures often go undetected unless someone specifically inspects the vehicle’s control and safety systems. If no mechanical review took place, it’s possible the vehicle didn’t respond the way the driver intended.
3. Has all the electronic data relating to the crash been collected?
Modern vehicles like the Ford Explorer and Hyundai Santa Fe carry event data recorders that can capture speed, brake pressure, steering input, and more. That data could help confirm whether the Explorer made a sudden move, failed to correct, or was simply not reacting at all. If distraction, confusion, or rerouting was involved, GPS or phone records could shed additional light. But unless someone gathered that information quickly, vital insights could already be lost.
Crashes like this don’t just call for blame—they call for answers. Because when someone is seriously hurt, it matters whether the driver made a mistake, or if something else made it for them.
- Wrong-lane crashes require full reconstruction of both vehicles’ approach and path.
- Mechanical or electronic issues might explain a sudden lane error.
- Onboard and device data can help clarify driver input and vehicle response.
