Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
People tend to think car accidents are simple just because they're common, and authorities are able to get answers and close the case. A lot of the time, though, families end up looking at little more than what we're seeing here: a bare-bones, incomplete investigation. That can be a significant problem.
The unfortunate reality is not all departments prioritize accident reconstruction. As a result, victims and families may encounter hurdles when it comes time to tell their side of the story. This is one of the reasons independent accident reconstructionists often need to pick up the slack. If people just take for granted that authorities are going to handle everything on their own, something important might slip through the cracks.
It's possible authorities here worked behind the scenes to ensure no crucial details were missed. In my experience, though, it's best not to wait around until it's too late to correct course.
