Lee County, SC — August 7, 2025, Tobias Hugley was killed as the result of a multi-truck accident at around 8:17 p.m. along I-20.

Authorities say that the accident took place outside of Bishopville near Highway 341.

Details say that two 18-wheelers and a passenger van were on I-20 when a collision somehow occurred. This reportedly resulted in one of the trucks and the van catching fire. Tobias Hugley was in one of the vehicles, and reports say Hugley was killed.

It's unclear if any other injuries occurred. The cause of the crash remains unconfirmed at this time.

A crash this chaotic is likely going to present significant hurdles to the authorities handling the investigations. These crashes are the ones that typically fare better when there are independent accident reconstructionists helping to pick up the slack. Authorities may be so focused on securing the scene and helping victims that the investigations take a back seat.

Well, the victims and families involved need answers, and that requires investigators who have the time, tools, and experience to prioritize the accident reconstruction. Cell phone records, vehicle data, road markings, debris analysis, driver logs, vehicle inspections, maintenance history, training and driver history—these are all necessary components of an investigation that typical police investigations too often overlook.

It's possible authorities here have a dedicated accident reconstruction team who are working to ensure those affected by this crash get the answers they deserve. However, I've seen how tough it can be for families to wait around for answers that never end up coming. Generally, those who take steps early on to ensure their crash is in the rights hands will be the ones who have the best outcomes. I don't see any reason why this crash would be an exception.
