2 Injured in Truck Accident on Access Road 1-A in Port Aransas, TX
Nueces County, TX — December 25, 2025, two people were injured due to a truck accident shortly after 10:00 p.m. along Access Road 1-A.
According to authorities, four people—a 23-year-old man, a 17-year-old girl, a 20-year-old woman, and a 25-year-old man—were traveling in a northbound GMC Acadia on Access Road 1-A in the vicinity southeast of the State Highway 361 intersection when the accident took place.
Officials indicate that, for reasons yet to be confirmed, a collision occurred between the GMC and a westbound Dodge Ram 3500 with a trailer in tow. The 17-year-old from the GMC reportedly sustained serious injuries as a result of the wreck. The 20-year-old woman suffered minor injuries, as well, according to reports.
Additional details pertaining to this incident are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.
Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
After crashes involving larger vehicles, early reports often focus on the fact that a truck was involved without fully explaining how the interaction unfolded. When multiple occupants are hurt, the more important issue is whether the details leading up to the collision were carefully examined.
Was the crash thoroughly investigated?
In a collision involving a passenger vehicle and a pickup truck pulling a trailer, a proper investigation should go beyond documenting the point of impact. Investigators should examine how both vehicles were moving beforehand, how their paths intersected, and what each driver was doing in the moments leading up to the crash. That includes reviewing vehicle positions, speed changes, and whether either driver attempted to brake or steer to avoid contact. The depth of this work often depends on the training and experience of the responding officers. Some investigators are equipped to analyze crashes involving trailers and complex vehicle dynamics, while others may rely on surface-level conclusions. In crashes involving serious injuries, that difference matters.
Has anyone looked into a possible vehicle defect?
When a truck is towing a trailer, mechanical condition becomes even more important. Brake performance, steering response, and suspension components on both the truck and the trailer should be closely examined. Trailer-related issues—such as hitch integrity or braking function—can affect how a vehicle responds in sudden situations. These problems are not always obvious at the scene. A thorough mechanical inspection is often the only way to determine whether a defect contributed to the collision.
Was all available electronic data collected?
Electronic data can help clarify what happened before impact. Vehicle systems may record speed, braking, steering input, and stability-control activity. The truck may also store data showing speed and braking while towing. Phone data can help determine whether distraction played a role, and nearby cameras may help establish timing and movement. This information is time-sensitive. If it is not preserved early, it can be lost, leaving key questions unanswered.
When a crash involving a truck and trailer leaves people injured, careful questions matter. A thorough investigation, close inspection of all involved equipment, and full collection of electronic data help move the case beyond assumptions and toward a clearer understanding of how the collision occurred.
Key Takeaways:
- Truck-and-trailer crashes require careful review of vehicle movement and timing.
- Mechanical or towing-related issues should be ruled out through inspection.
- Electronic data can clarify driver actions before the collision.
