Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
I've handled hundreds of commercial vehicle accident cases over the years. They're about as complex as things can get for investigators. It's important steps are taken early on to preserve evidence while everything is still intact. That alone can prove to be challenging for some departments. If authorities don't prioritize accident reconstruction, officers might lack the experience or tools they need to secure evidence and get clear answers.
That's why it's important for victims and families to gauge the efforts of authorities early on. If they're able to address all concerns adequately, that's usually a sign they're taking the investigations seriously. But if it seems like authorities aren't asking the right questions, that could be a sign that the crash would be better off in the hands of independent investigators.
